Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) announced the start of commercial negotiations with the United States for the sale of oil. The information was share in Facebook with an official statement.

The information came after the government of Donald Trump said it would control the marketing of Venezuelan oil ‘indefinitely.’ This follows the capture of Nicolás Maduro on Saturday.

Petróleos de Venezuela stated in its message that the dialogue with the authorities led by Trump takes place within the framework of the relations that exist between both countries.

«This process is carried out under frameworks similar to those in place with international companies,» the company pointed out.

«PDVSA reaffirms its commitment to continue building partnerships that promote national development for the benefit of the Venezuelan people and contribute to global energy stability,» the statement added.

Tension with US

Trade negotiations between PDVSA and the United States take place a day after the announcement made by Donald Trump. The president stated that Venezuela would deliver between 30 and 50 million barrels of high-quality, sanctioned oil.

Since the capture of Nicolás Maduro, the U.S. government has stated that it will maintain a presence in the Latin American country until there is a safe and democratic transition. At the same time, it said it will also take charge of oil production.

In this regard, it assured that there are multiple U.S. companies interested in investing in the Venezuelan industry.
