Mexico is a land of magic, talent and perseverance, with a charm capable of winning over tourists and the city of Madrid, Spain alike. Tlaxcala demonstrated this on the day prior to the opening of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) 2026, when it unveiled a magnificent carpet at the La Vaguada shopping center.
This exhibition is more than a display of the state’s handicrafts and traditions. It is a tribute to the brotherhood of two nations with more than 500 years of shared history, a relationship that gave rise not only to Mexico and Spain, but also changed the course of world history. All of this took place at one of the most important locations in the Spanish capital, considered “the heart of Madrid.”
Tlaxcala brings its culture to La Vaguada within the framework of FITUR 2026
The state governed by Lorena Cuéllar began its activities with an intense agenda of meetings with executives and dialogues aimed at boosting tourism. However, the presentation of this work of art crowned the day, both for its symbolic meaning and for the way it illustrates how the relationship between Mexico and Spain is stronger than ever.
At the center of the image is Malintzin, depicted among representations of leaders from both nations. With this powerful introduction, Tlaxcala reminded audiences that it has long stood at the center of the relationship between the two countries, a role it continues to play at FITUR 2026 with this gesture at La Vaguada.
The presentation also featured local dancers, known as huehues. With their vivid colors and striking attire, they drew admiration from visitors to the shopping center, who recognized the unique magic of Tlaxcala.
An opportunity to internationalize Tlaxcala
At the International Tourism Fair, Governor Lorena Cuéllar has a full agenda of activities aimed at promoting the state as a key destination within Mexico’s tourism landscape. Its historical attractions, cultural heritage and traditions are part of what Tlaxcala is showcasing at the fair, which runs through January 25.
The state’s activities began with a presentation at the “Punta Arena” restaurant at Casa de México in Madrid. The event, titled “Marketing the Tlaxcala Destination,” was led by the governor and the state’s tourism secretary, Fabricio Mena Rodríguez, and brought together tour operators, travel agencies and international media outlets.
For this edition, Tlaxcala’s delegation includes more than 25 participants, among them artisans, traditional cooks, chefs, dancers and tour operators, all with the goal of positioning Tlaxcala as a cultural, gastronomic and sustainable destination on the international tourism stage.
