Thousands of flights within, to, or from the United States were canceled as of Monday, January 26, 2026, as a powerful winter storm continued to impact large portions of the country. The severe weather system has already been linked to at least 10 deaths and has caused widespread power outages, road closures, and school suspensions across several states.
According to official reports, extreme cold temperatures and continued snowfall are expected to persist over the coming days, raising the likelihood of further flight cancellations and delays. Airlines and airport authorities have warned travelers to prepare for ongoing disruptions as the storm system continues to move across the region.
Data from flight tracking website FlightAware.com showed that in the early hours of Monday alone, 3,821 flights had been canceled, while an additional 1,249 flights operating within, departing from, or arriving in the United States experienced delays. These figures are expected to rise throughout the day as weather-related complications continue to accumulate.
American Airlines has been the most affected carrier, reporting more than 500 canceled flights. Other airlines experiencing significant disruptions include Republic Airways, JetBlue, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines, reflecting the broad impact of the storm across the aviation industry.
Several major airports have been hit particularly hard. Among the most affected are Boston Logan International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport in Queens, Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport, and Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Some of these airports are facing issues primarily as departure hubs, while others are struggling with incoming flight disruptions.
