Machado asserts that Venezuela will be the main ally of the US
Machado emphasized that this moment marks a turning point following the capture of Maduro. He ruled Venezuela for over a decade amid accusations of authoritarianism, repression, and serious human rights violations. The opposition leader attributed the arrest to the U.S. government’s adherence to the law and thanked President Donald Trump and his administration for what she described as firmness and determination in the face of a regime accused of drug trafficking and corruption.
The US operation resulted in the arrest of Maduro and Flores, who were taken out of Venezuela to face charges in the United States. That action provoked immediate reactions both within and outside the country, while also reigniting the debate about Venezuela’s political future and the possibility of a democratic transition after years of institutional crisis.
