Ukraine has rejected accusations from the Russian government regarding an alleged drone attack on one of President Vladimir Putin’s official residences. The incident was reported by Moscow on December 29, 2025.
According to Kyiv, there is no credible evidence to support the Russian claims. It considers part of a narrative aimed at obstructing peace efforts and justifying further military actions.

Russia’s Claim the Attack and Ukrainian Response
The Russian government, through official statements, claimed that 91 long-range drones were allegedly launched during the night of December 28-29 against a presidential residence in the Novgorod region, located northwest of Moscow.
Russian authorities stated that the air defense system shot down all devices, with no recorded casualties or significant damage from falling debris. However, Ukraine denied the attack, stating that Russia has not provided evidence to support its accusations.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiga declared on social media that the accusations are baseless and that the alleged attack «did not occur.» He further considered these claims to be manipulating international perception and potentially undermining progress in peace talks.
Context of Diplomatic Tensions
The episode occurs at a time when Ukraine and the United States have reported progress in negotiations to end the conflict that began in 2022, intensifying international interest in the dialogue table.
Ukrainian leaders, including President Volodymyr Zelensky, have indicated that the Russian claims could be aimed at discrediting or delaying that progress. In addition to serving as a pretext for future military actions.
