The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will support the raising of 75 million dollars for sports projects in the Gaza Strip, focused on infrastructure and football development.

The announcement was made during the first meeting of the Peace Board, an initiative driven by Trump with the aim of addressing international conflicts, starting with the situation in Gaza.

FIFA and the United States promote reconstruction with sports as a tool

During the meeting in Washington, Trump highlighted that FIFA President Gianni Infantino will collaborate to bring international football figures to the region as part of a program aimed at promoting peace and reconstruction thru sport.

“Fields will be built and the best stars in the world will be brought in”, the president stated, emphasizing that more details about the projects in Gaza will be announced soon.

The initiative is part of a broader reconstruction effort, in which the United States announced a contribution of 10 billion dollars, while other countries have committed up to 7 billion dollars additional.

FIFA Peace Prize and international support

Last December, during an event related to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament jointly organized by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, Trump received the first “FIFA Peace Award”, given by the highest body of world football.

The recognition was awarded by FIFA as a symbolic gesture for its role in international diplomatic initiatives.

Peace Summit: World Leaders in Washington

The first meeting of the Peace Board brought together leaders and representatives from more than 40 countries in Washington. Among the attendees were:

  • Javier Milei, President of Argentina
  • Santiago Peña, President of Paraguay
  • Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary

Trump described the meeting as one of the “most important in terms of power and prestige,” gathering several of the world’s top political leaders.

The participation of FIFA in reconstruction projects in Gaza reinforces the role of sports as a tool for diplomacy and social cohesion. In the context of the 2026 World Cup and the growing prominence of the United States in organizing major sporting events, the initiative aims to position football as a bridge for peace.
