The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that his government will initiate actions against drug trafficking on land, after intensifying maritime operations against alleged narco-boats in the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean. In an interview with Fox Business, the president assured that the measures have helped reduce the flow of drugs into U.S. territory.

During the conversation with host Larry Kudlow, Trump claimed that after the maritime attacks, the influx of fentanyl and other drugs was reduced by approximately 33%, although he did not detail the source of the figures. “Now we are going to start on land”, he declared, explaining that they first focused on vessels to prevent criminal groups from shifting their operations to the sea.

Fentanyl and border security, the focus of the strategy

The fight against fentanyl, a synthetic drug linked to thousands of overdose deaths in the United States, remains one of the main pillars of the current government’s security policy. Trump stated that the maritime offensive forced criminal organizations to modify their routes, which will now allow resources to be focused on land operations.

In the interview, he also addressed topics such as the economic situation in the United States, negotiations with Iran, the upcoming Supreme Court ruling on tariffs, and the nomination of Kevin Warsh to chair the Federal Reserve.
