Within the framework of FITUR 2026, BBVA Mexico and the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) presented the results of the “Avanzamos por México” strategy. Through this initiative, since March 2025 the bank has granted nearly 2,000 loans totaling 5.4 billion pesos to micro tourism businesses.

In a statement, BBVA Mexico said the plan responds to the growing calendar of international events hosted by Mexico, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In this context, the bank views domestic tourism not only as a cultural strength, but also as a strategic sector for investment and economic growth. As part of this effort, the financial institution organized the Tourism and Investment Forum, which brought together more than 300 business leaders, federal and state authorities, as well as financial and tourism sector executives, including Ambassador Quirino Ordaz Coppel.

During the forum, the bank highlighted that progress has focused on the digitalization and training of micro and small tourism businesses. More than 9,000 businesses in 250 municipalities, 177 Pueblos Mágicos and 73 tourism communities have begun operating with payment terminals and digital collection systems, allowing them to join the formal financial system.

Eduardo Osuna Osuna, Vice Chairman and CEO of BBVA Mexico, emphasized that tourism is a countercyclical engine of the national economy. He noted that average spending by international air travelers reached $1,229, with sustained increases compared to previous years, reflecting higher value-added tourism and greater economic impact. Between January and November 2025, Mexico received more than 40 million international tourists and generated over $31 billion in foreign currency revenues.

Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Mexico’s Minister of Tourism, said the country is going through a strategic moment by aligning investment, regional development and financing to strengthen tourism MSMEs. In this scenario, events such as FITUR and the 2026 World Cup represent a historic opportunity to consolidate sustainable, long-term projects.

One of the central pillars of the forum held during FITUR 2026 was the joint strategy between BBVA Mexico and Sectur, through FONATUR, to optimize and unlock the value of nearly 300 tourism properties. This would be carried out through co-investment schemes and trusts that could finance up to 70% of total project costs, positioning the bank as more than a lender and as an integral partner in tourism infrastructure development.
