A 22-year-old Miami-Dade County resident is now behind bars after authorities linked him to multiple illegal street takeover events that disrupted traffic across the county over the weekend, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators from the Homeland Security Bureau identified Damiean Alvarez as a participant in an organized takeover that unfolded early Sunday morning between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. at several locations. Deputies first spotted Alvarez as a passenger in a blue Infiniti G35 performing donuts at the intersection of Northwest 77th Court and 169th Street, where approximately 50 to 60 vehicles had gathered and blocked traffic.
Roughly two hours later, authorities observed Alvarez in the same vehicle at another takeover location beneath the Palmetto Expressway, at the intersection of Northwest 25th Street and 76th Avenue. During both incidents, the suspect allegedly wore a ski mask to hide his identity while spectators exited their cars to record the dangerous stunts on their phones.
On Tuesday evening, deputies arrested Alvarez at his residence on the 2700 block of Northwest 48th Street, where the blue Infiniti was found parked in the driveway. He now faces felony charges of drag racing while masked and is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Records also show Alvarez was wanted on a separate domestic violence warrant, with bond yet to be determined.
