The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie could be linked with Mexico. The case of the mother of prominent TV host Savannah Guthrie has taken a troubling turn. Series of anonymous messages claims she was kidnapped in Arizona and taken to Sonora, where she allegedly died.

The information, reported by TMZ, remains unverified by authorities but has intensified public attention on the case. According to the report, the messages appear to come from the same source that in February demanded one bitcoin, approximately 69,000 dollars, in exchange for information leading to the old woman’s whereabouts. In the latest emails, the sender claims to have seen Guthrie with her alleged captors in Mexico and later asserts that she died shortly after the abduction.

The proposed arrangement involved an initial partial payment, with the remaining balance to be delivered after the public arrest of at least one suspect. However, no evidence has been provided to support these claims.

Speaking on the Drop Dead Serious podcast, TMZ founder Harvey Levin said the outlet has received more than half a dozen emails from the individual, who claims to know both the identities of the kidnappers and Guthrie’s fate. According to these messages, she allegedly died just over a week after being taken from her home in Tucson, though no cause of death has been specified.

A case with broader implications

Beyond the uncertainty surrounding the claims, the case has drawn wider attention due to the family’s public profile and the circumstances involved. The disappearance of an elderly woman connected to a high-profile media figure has highlighted the vulnerability of older adults and the complexities of cross-border kidnapping cases.

The alleged connection to Mexico adds an international dimension that can complicate investigations, often involving multiple jurisdictions and legal systems. Such conditions can make it harder to verify information and may contribute to the spread of unconfirmed narratives, as seen in this case.

The use of cryptocurrency as a form of extortion also reflects a growing trend in modern crimes, where perpetrators rely on difficult-to-trace payment methods to demand money in exchange for information or the release of victims.

Meanwhile, the Guthrie family faces not only the emotional toll of a disappearance but also the strain of conflicting reports that deepen uncertainty. Authorities have not officially confirmed either the kidnapping or the alleged death, leaving the case unresolved and under investigation.
